Robert Downey Jr. Surprises 7-Year-Old Boy with Awesome 3D Printed Prosthetic Iron Man Arm

Back in July, we had the opportunity to cover a tremendous story about a man named Albert Manero, who had created a 3D printed myoelectric prosthetic arm for a little boy named Alex. That arm provided Alex with the opportunity, for the first time in his life, to give his mom a full hug. While that story seemed to have a very happy ending, in reality it wasn’t even close to being over with.

Amazing Project Brings Prostheses to Syrian Refugee Camp with Help from Ultimaker

We have seen so many amazing initiatives come out of the E-Nable project in recent months that it is difficult to imagine it could get even better. And yet it always does. The new initiative by a start-up called Refugee Open Ware (ROW) brings the E-Nable hand prostheses to refugee camps in Jordan, where many Syrians escaped from the the ongoing civil war, one to the most dramatic humanitarian disasters in history.

At REAL 2015 last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Katherine Crawford who joined UNYQ founder Ethyor Bender on stage to talk about her experience with UNYQ’s 3D printed prosthetic covers. I was inspired by her presence and requested an interview with her. She kindly obliged and we got to talking, sitting outside Herbst Pavillion in comfy inflatable furniture. There were a few noisy birds that interrupted us here and there, but I captured most of the audio recording without a problem.

Ist das Knie verschlissen und nicht mehr belastbar, bleibt oft nur der Einbau eines künstlichen Gelenks, um es wieder schmerzfrei bewegen zu können. Die richtige Prothese zu finden ist nicht einfach – außerdem muss der Knochen entsprechend angepasst werden. Mit einem am Computer geplanten Ersatzknie aus dem 3D-Drucker funktioniert das umgekehrt: Die Prothese wird dem Körper genau angepasst.

Attempt to Break Guinness Record of 1,647 High-Fives Falls Short, But Brings Attention to 3D Printed Prostheses

The attempt to break the Guinness World Record for consecutive high-fives may not have succeeded (it does stand at a daunting 1,647 participants) but the High-Five Chain to draw attention to the work of Limbitless Solutions, a group of University of Central Florida doctoral students led by Albert Manero, was indeed a success.
