Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU Singapore) start-up Blacksmith Group launched its all-in-one 3D printer last weekend at the American Association Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting in San Jose, California.

Within the 3D printing market, there are literally hundreds of different printers, all which function basically the same way, outside of a few. Usually the way that a printer manufacturer differentiates itself from its competition is by adding size, an extra extruder, or a lowering price. AIO Robotics will eine Kickstarter-Kampagne zur Finanzierung eines 3D-Druckers und -Kopierers starten. Der Zeus soll wie ein Multifunktionsgerät auch faxen können, wobei in diesem Fall die Übermittlung der Daten an andere 3D-Drucker gemeint ist.

Eines der Einsatzgebiete von 3D-Druckern für den Hausgebrauch ist die Anfertigung von Ersatzteilen, die es nicht (oder nicht mehr) zu kaufen gibt. Dafür muss das Ersatzteil allerdings vermessen und mit einer CAD-Software nachkonstruiert werden. Einfacher geht es mit einem 3D-Scanner wie dem angekündigten Digitizer Desktop 3D von Makerbot, dem David Laserscanner, dem Open-Source-Projekt FabScan oder der passenden Software für Kinect & Co.

Der Bugginger Versandhändler Pearl hat jetzt angekündigt, eine 3D-Kopierer-Kombination unter dem Namen FreeSculpt für 1100 Euro auf den Markt zu bringen.

Makerbot hat mit dem Digitizer Desktop 3D einen Prototypen eines Scanners vorgestellt, der kleinere Gegenstände automatisch abtasten kann. Mit einem 3D-Drucker sollen dann ohne Kenntnisse von 3D-Programmen Kopien erzeugt werden können.
