NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Announces $10 Million in Funding to Expand the State’s 3D Printing Footprint

Many people believe that 3D printing is the future of manufacturing. The additive nature of the technology is both quick and efficient in creating precise parts, molds, and prototypes. It allows for complete customization of products on a one-to-one basis. 3D printing has the ability to cut the need for large inventories, prevent waste, and speed up a product’s time to market.

3D Systems Expands Their Presence in The Aerospace Industry With 2 New Acquisitions

One of the primary beneficiaries, thus far from additive manufacturing, has been that of the aerospace industry. The ability for companies to manufacture incredibly complex parts, reduce the weight of components, and even eliminate the number of parts needed, has allowed them to save money, while increasing reliability in a number of key areas. We have seen a rapid expansion in the number of 3D printed components used on aircraft and even spacecraft, from the likes of NASA, Airbus, General Electric, and BAE Systems, and this is just the beginning.

3D Systems Builds Its 3D Printing for Healthcare Portfolio with Planned Acquisition of Simbionix

3D Systems’ focus on 3D printing within the medical sector is no secret, particularly since it acquired Medical Modeling earlier this year. The company is obviously not content to sit on its laurels as far as the medical field is concerned either — yesterday 3DS announced that it has definitively agreed to acquire Simbionix — for $120 million in cash, with the deal expected to be closed by the end of August. As a global leader in 3D virtual reality surgical simulation, Simbionix is likely to boost 3D Systems’ capabilities in the healthcare field with its 16 simulation platforms for a wide range of medical procedures.
