Free to existing users, the new Sense Plus software increases scan capture speed by 3X to 25 frames per second while significantly improving tracking for a smoother scan experience. The new software also includes enhanced color editing features and is available in 3DS’ 12 standard languages for its consumer offerings. Artec 3D Brings Incredible Shapify Booths to New Jersey Mall & I Got to Try One Out!

Today, Artec 3D and Mirror Image 3D have announced that they are bringing Artec’s Shapify Booth to the Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ. This new installation will allow anyone attending the mall to have a full body scan created of themselves either by themselves or with friends/loved ones in just 12 seconds flat. That’s right, the scanners, which we reported on back in October of last year, will be made available to shoppers in the Garden State.

You can now create 3D models by waving your smartphone around an object

Even if you rarely check out a technology blog, it cannot have escaped your attention that even regular smartphones are increasingly being used as mediums or tools for the latest technological innovations. Just look at those budget virtual reality goggles that rely on app-based software or those basic 3D modeling apps. Really the big option that still hasn’t been converted into app shape is 3D scanning – but not for long. Researchers from the Pennsylvania-based Carnegie Mellon University have developed a method for doing exactly that.
