3D Systems’ (NASDAQ:DDD) 2014 Fourth Quarter Earnings Miss Analysts’ Expectations

As I look back at the last 14 months as an investor in 3D Systems (NYSE:DDD), I feel like I just got off a downhill roller coaster. In January of 2014, the stock was trading at around $97 per share, and today it’s at about $30. What is happening to one of the largest 3D printing companies on the planet? The company’s shares have lost over two-thirds of their value in just 14 months and investors remain weary, concerned and are just looking for something to cheer about.

3D Systems Cube 3 review: An excellent compact printer for making small 3D objects

The Good / The 3D Systems Cube 3 is well-designed and easy to use. The printer builds small objects excellently and is inexpensive for a printer that can print with two materials in the same job.

The Bad /
Printing large objects can randomly fail halfway through the process, and the printer needs to cool down after a job before it can print again. The machine uses 3D Systems‘ expensive proprietary filament cartridges.

The Bottom /
Line If you don’t mind sticking to small print jobs, the Cube 3 is as good as it gets for a compact 3D printer.

Although there has been an incredible amount of progress made within the 3D printing space these last few years, it’s often hard to remember that 3D printing has actually been around for over 30 years. It was only the last four to five years that the phrase “3D print” has become relatively common within media and tech circles, and that consumer-level machines actually became affordable, but many of those working in the manufacturing space have been aware of the technology for quite a while.
