The #IceBoxChallenge is aimed at designing solutions that can be placed inside of your refrigerator. To qualify, designs must be printable on a MakerBot. Challenge runs 11/3/2014 to 11/23/2014.

MakerBot’s Continual Innovation Brings Improvements to Smart Extruder – Reported Rumors Emerge on its Original and Future Development

The company told us that they are constantly working to improve on the Smart Extruder. The extruders come with warranties and they can be exchanged out if they do not work properly. This is where the hardware innovation comes into play. While the company isn’t releasing a new Smart Extruder as a separate product, they continue to innovate and improve upon the current design, and new 5th Generation Replicators come stocked with the latest versions at all times. The same is true when it comes to replacement extruders for those which do not function correctly.

Alexander Hafner, GM of MakerBot Europe is Enthusiastic About MakerBot Innovation Center Expansion

While last year’s Euromold participation – shortly after the Stratasys acquisition – was the first real taste that MakerBot got of a full on industrial manufacturing event, and the main goal was to show its products, this year the company was present with a very clear plan. And that was to present itself as a valid alternative for rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing initiatives, proposing a solution that differs from others on the show floor, one that can be based on highly affordable 3D printers farms. That solution is based on MakerBot’s 3D family of 3D printers although it is made possible by the MakerBot Innovation Center concept, which the company is now transitioning into Europe after a successful venture in US schools and universities.

The Award Goes to MakerBot’s 3D Printed Award for Pocket-lint

When I was in high school, I held on to my tennis trophies, spelling bee plaques, and academic achievement certificates by ceremoniously stuffing them all into a bedroom bookshelf — allowing them to get dusty and wrinkled. Let’s face it, many awards aren’t really much to look at although they are designed to recognize outstanding achievements. In the corporate world, it’s not much different, as plaques and certificates still dominate. Even the Hollywood Academy’s award — the infamous Oscar — seems boring and impersonal these days. While 3D printing has changed the way we look at many everyday devices and objects, it is also reinventing design in a much needed category — the award.
