Formlabs Standing Strong Despite Patent Lawsuit

There are a lot of players trying to move strategically around the 3D printing board. And when you mess with the big dogs, it can be as scary as… well, not a John Grisham novel or anything, but it can still be a big deal. The startup Formlabs managed to get some unwanted attention from the powerhouse 3D Systems in the form of a lawsuit over patents that has been dragging on… and on. In a recent interview with Xconomy, Formlabs founder Max Lobovsky didn’t have a lot to say about the suit, but Xconomy examined court documents that indicate the two parties may be close to reaching an agreement.

Stratasys Reports Record Earnings, but Lowers Their Guidance for Fiscal 2014

After HP announced their new 3D printing ambitions last week, investors of two of the largest 3D printing companies in the world, Stratasys (NASDAQ:SSYS) and 3D Systems, have been a bit on the cautious side. Many who own shares in Stratasys have hoped that today’s 3rd quarter financial results would ease some of the concerns we have seen within the market pertaining to the larger 3D printing players.

3DP Injection Molding Process Spread by Stratasys and Worrell Collaboration

One large name in the 3D printing industry, Stratasys, and another in the design and product development world, Worrell, have created a project to promote the use of 3D printing for medical device development through the use of 3D printed injection molding (dubbed 3DP IM by Worrell). The effort shows a drastic drop in time and money needed to create medical prototypes with final production materials. The stats are impressive: 90% decrease in time and 70% decrease in cost. Now the onus is on the collaboration to spread the word so that the practice can proliferate throughout the medical community.

Stratasys Goes All Out, Announces 11 New High-performance 3D Printers and Materials

If for one second you thought that HP’s entrance into the 3D printing space would convince the leaders within the industry to role over and die, you were certainly thinking irrationally. Although HP’s new Multi Jet Fusion technology may be the next paradigm within 3D printing, according to some, this technology could still be as far as two years off. This will provide the leaders in the space more than enough time to try and catch up with the tech giant’s ambitions.
